I was born and brought up in a small village in Manipur. During my childhood, my favourite pastime was to listen to stories narrated by elders. When I was about 14 years of age, I was always reading whatever book available. Well, I had very few books to read. There were very few people in my village who went to a school/college properly. So, most of the time I would read the few available Manipuri stories- novels, short stories or poems- again and again. Somehow, I enjoyed it very much. Sometimes, I used to read the Manipuri translations of short stories for English course book. I would read the very short stories found in old Grammar books too.

It was when I came to Imphal in 2006 that I started reading Manipur novels and short stories super excitedly. It was craziness in some way. I had very little money during that time. Out of the monthly allowance money that my mother sent, I would always save money to buy books. The result: throughout that two years period, I wore only one second hand jeans, a torn slipper and two t-shirts apart from my school uniform. Well, this side of me will be told another time.

All that I wanted to say is that Manipuri literature is beautiful like all other great literary culture. I would like you to explore it. I will be sharing bits of what I have read so far.

I will share e-books of some Manipuri novels and short stories whenever possible. These are merely reproduced here for the benefit of general readers who would like to read Manipuri literature.
