It was when I was in ninth standard that I started writing little poems and what I called ‘little songs’. When I was in secondary, I have started writing short stories in my mother tongue. I used to passionately read Manipuri novels and short stories during that time. My favourite Manipuri writers include Dr. Lamabam Kamal, Hijam Angahal, and G. C. Tongbra.
I started reading biographies/autobiographies, novels and short stories written in English or translated into English when I was studying undergraduate in Delhi. Maxim Gorki’s Mother, Jostein Gaarder’s Sophie’s World, Nelson Mandela’s Long March To Freedom, Barack Obama’s Dreams from My Father and The Audacity of Hope, Benjamin Franklin’s The Autobiography of Benjamin Franklin, Mahatma Gandhi’s Autobiography/The Story of My Experiments with Truth and Hind Swaraj, Jawaharlal Nehru’s An Autobiography and The Discovery of India, APJ Abdul Kalam’s books etc. are some of my favourites. These legends, their life and work have inspired me to a great extent.
My love of writing may have to do with my passion for reading. Reading definitely inspires writing!
Whenever inspiration strikes, I write short stories. I hope you enjoy reading these short stories as much as I enjoyed writing them. And, hey, feel free to share your thoughts in the comments!
